Maruti Suzuki WagonR BS6 1.0 commands a premium of Rs 8000 over the BS4 version

India’s largest car manufacturer has launched a new BS6 car in a bid to make its entire lineup BS6 compliant. All-new Maruti Suzuki WagonR BS6 1.0 has been launched with a price starting from Rs 4.42 lakh ex-showroom. The company has already launched the BS6 version of the 1.2-litre WagonR. Top variant equipped with 1.0 K10B engine is priced at Rs 5.41 lakh ex-showroom. What makes WagonR BS6 interesting is the price which is only Rs 8000 costlier than the BS4 version.

The base model of WagonR BS6 is LXi which is priced at Rs 4.42 lakh whereas LXi(O) will set you back by 4.49 lakh ex-showroom. Speaking about the VXi range, it starts from Rs 4.87 lakh for VXi trim and Rs 4.94 lakh for the VXi(O). Maruti is also offering Automatic Gear Shift (AGS) in the WagonR BS6 only in VXi trim. Equipped with AGS, the VXi costs Rs 5.34 lakh and VXi(O) carries a price tag of Rs 5.41 lakh. All the prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Coming to the main point, the BS6 compliant engine. It is the same K10B 3-cylinder unit which also does duty in Auto, S-Presso, and Celerio. The 998cc powerplant develops 68bhp and 90Nm torque. BS6 version of the 1.0-litre engine returns lower fuel economy at 22.79 kmpl from BS4’s 22.5 kmpl. However, these numbers are slightly more than the S-Presso’s 21.4 kmpl.

At present, Maruti is selling around 70% cars in BS6 disguise and hopes to achieve 100% BS6 sales in the upcoming months. The only cars which are left to upgrade are Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, and S-Cross.
