This new Maruti MPV is ready to break cover in June

Maruti MPV based on WagonR

WagonR based 7-seater Maruti MPV will go on sale from Nexa, likely to don a new name

Maruti Suzuki launched the new WagonR at the beginning of this year. A seven-seater MPV variant of the popular tallboy hatchback has been on the card. Now, this Maruti MPV is being ready for its grand launch. Expect the car to hit showrooms sometime in June 2019. Besides an elongated appearance, it will also come with a new name.

Expect the new Maruti MPV to come with a similar face as the current Maruti Suzuki WagonR. However, slight changes could be visible as well. The WagonR based MPV could receive new alloy wheels, revised taillights. Interior of the Maruti MPV will be significantly different compared to the WagonR. Apart from the additional space and comfort on offer, there will be a couple of additional features as well.

Upon launch, this Maruti MPV will be sold through the Nexa retail network that currently sells models like Ciaz, Ignis and Baleno. It will be positioned below Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, one of the bestselling MPVs in India. However, the new Maruti MPV won’t be sold as a taxi model like its bigger MPV sibling.

The new Maruti MPV will be powered by the same 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine that works under the hood of new WagonR. This engine is good to kick out 82 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque output. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT as well. The engine is also known for delivering a high level of fuel efficiency.

The Maruti MPV is targeting a segment that is expected to grow significantly in the coming days. Renault is working on a Kwid based MPV that will be based on CMFA architecture. Datsun has the Go+ seven-seater already on offer. Maruti aims to top the segment with its new WagonR based MPV. This upcoming MPV could be priced very competitively.
