Toyota is gearing up for the launch of Yaris sedan in BS6 avatar, bookings are now open

Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is now working on to launch the BS6 version of its C segment sedan, the Yaris. Toyota Yaris BS6 price starts from Rs 8.76 lakh ex-showroom for the manual base variant and Rs 9.46 lakh with the CVT automatic transmission.

Yaris sedan is powered by a same 1.5-litre petrol engine which pumps out 106bhp at 6000rpm and 140Nm torque at 4200rpm. The engine is mated to either a 6 gear manual transmission or a 7-step CVT automatic. The company claims a fuel economy of 17.1 kmpl for the BS4 manual and 17.8 kmpl for the BS4 CVT version. Fuel efficiency figures for the BS6 version is not yet revealed by the automaker.

Kerb weight of the Yaris ranges from 1090kg (J optional) to 1120 kg for the top variant with the CVT. Despite the engine being compliant to BS6 emission norms, the engine hasn’t lost any power as of now. This can only be confirmed when the car is launched.

Speaking about the features on the top VX variant, there is a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay support, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, Diamond-cut alloy wheels, cruise control, leatherette upholstery, electronically adjustable driver seat as well as tyre pressure monitoring system. The CVT variant also gets sporty paddle shifters too.

Safety-wise, Yaris is equipped with 7-airbags (3 airbags in optional variants), ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, hill-start assist as well as rear parking sensors.

In the Indian market, Toyota Yaris battles with Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, and Hyundai Verna. At present, only Honda City has been equipped with a BS6 compliant engine. Ciaz and Verna will soon come out with BS6 engines with Verna to feature a BS6 diesel engine too. Vento and Rapid will switch to a 1.0-litre turbo petrol BS6 engine before April 2020.
