MG Hector is what Chevrolet Captiva could have been!

MG Hector looks similar to Chevrolet Captiva

MG Hector is gearing up for India launch and it appears very similar to the Columbian Chevrolet Captiva

India is about to experience the arrival of a new SUV from a new brand, MG Hector from the British car maker MG Motors. Indian auto enthusiasts like me are already pretty interested in the upcoming MG Hector. Another reason to be excited about the car is Sherlock Benedict Cumberbatch, who became the brand ambassador of the MG India. Meanwhile, while looking at the car suddenly I found it very similar to the Columbian market-spec Chevrolet Captiva.

I was pretty excited when General Motors launched the Chevrolet Captiva facelift in India back in 2015. It was a true American SUV with a muscular build, modern tech and features and a 4×4 drivetrain as well. However, later, the American auto brand decided to exit the Indian market, eventually disappointing many of us. Now, it seems, MG Hector is bringing that same charm as the Chevrolet Captiva.

Chevrolet Captiva 2019

If we check the design of both current Chevrolet Captiva and MG Hector, similarities between these two SUVs appear very prominent. The front fascia, side profile bear the identical marks. However, there are significant distinctive elements as well that marks the difference between these two models.

Honestly, the MG Hector is a rebadged version of Chinese market-spec Baojun 530 SUV. While the exterior of the MG Hector looks similar to the Chevrolet Captiva, interior too is likely to bring some similarity. Speaking about the powertrain, the MG Hector will come with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 141 bhp of peak power and 250 Nm of maximum torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic unit as well.

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Captiva also gets the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that works under the hood of Baojun 530. However, it gets a CVT channelling power to all the four wheels through an All-Wheel-Drive system.
