Honda City BS6 is now certified by the concerned authorities and will be launched soon in the Indian market. The certified engine is the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol unit which now makes half a horsepower more than the BS4 version at 117.52bhp at 6600rpm.
Honda City BS6 will come will in four variants same as that of the current lineup – SV, V, VX, ZX. The certified variant is mated to a manual gearbox however, expect CVT during the launch of the car. As of now, there is no word about the 1.5-litre Diesel engine but we expect Honda to upgrade the Diesel unit into BS6 compliance.
The Diesel engine in City develops 99bhp and 200Nm torque which is fine for the highway rides. When we speak about the Petrol engine, Honda City gets the best gasoline unit as its revs to quite high in the rev range. The spirited performance from the petrol engine is noted by every buyer of the car.
The equipment levels of Honda City is impressive as the top ZX variant gets everything LED on the outside including Headlights, tail lights, DRLs as well as Fog lamps and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. On the interior, the new City will get 7-inch touchscreen infortainment system, an electric sunroof, leather upholstery, multi-function steering wheel, decorative silver accents on the dashboard among others. There are two SRS airbags on all variants while the top model gets 6-airbags for enhanced safety.
Speaking about the price, the current BS4 lineup starts from Rs 10.03 lakh and tops out at 13.09 lakh for the petrol version. We expect the prices to rise by about Rs 20,000 for the upgrading to meet the BS6 emission norms.
