Tata Nexon EV can go up to 300 km in a single charge, to price around Rs 16 lakh

Indian automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors has unveiled India’s own all-electric SUV called Nexon EV. Just recently Tata motors launched the Tigor EV with 216 km range option for the customers looking for an all-electric compact car. The Nexon EV is equipped with Tata latest innovative electric powertrain system which goes by the name ‘Ziptron’. Bookings for the Nexon EV will start from 21st December 2019 with a token amount of Rs 21,000.

Price and deliveries to start in the first quarter of the year 2020. Expect the electric Nexon to carry a price tag of around Rs 16 lakh ex-showroom. At this price, the Nexon will be cheaper by almost Rs 7 lakh than the Hyundai Kona electric crossover which retails at Rs 23.6 lakh ex-showroom.

Designwise, the Nexon EV gets reworked sharper headlights with LED DRLs with same signature humanity grille in Tata’s design 2.0 initiative. The air dams are wider while the fog lamps get chrome bezels. Another refresh touch comes in the form of new alloy wheel, ORVMs, turn indicators. However, at the rear, the taillamps are same as before with Nexon EV badge.

Coming to the powertrain, Tata Nexon EV’s Ziptron unit features a liquid-cooled 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This unit powers the 127bhp permanent magnet AC motor putting out 245Nm of torque right from zero rpm. That said, Nexon EV can touch 100 kmph in 9.9 seconds. With a tested range of over 300 km, one can easily rely on the new Tata Nexon EV for daily city use.

Speaking about charging, the Nexon EV’s batteries can be charged to 80% in 60 minutes with the help of a DC fast charger. A home charger which will be supplied with the SUV can charge the vehicle in about 8 hours. In a single minute, the fast charging will add 4 km to the range, and a 50% charge can move the Nexon EV to about 150 km.

Tata might launch the Nexon EV in just top XZ variant or might go otherwise to price at a lower price range. The SUV is set to receive all the top-notch equipment level to please the customers as much as possible. A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system will come standard with Apple Carplay and Android Auto support. Safety-wise, the car already got a 5-start Global NCAP rating and is the safest car in the compact SUV segment.
