Kia Seltos record by selling 6200 units in its first month of launch
Kia Seltos was launched on 22 August 2019 and in just 8 days the Korean manufacturer managed to sell staggering 6,200 units of Seltos. This number is now more than what Hyundai could do with its Creta SUV. Hence we can say that Kia Seltos is the best selling SUV under Rs 15 lakh mark. The company has more than 35,000 bookings of the SUV which comes with a waiting period of 2 to 3 months.
Speaking about the rivals, the Seltos tag along the Renault Capture, Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Creta. The top-end GT variants of Seltos go neck in neck with highly popular Jeep Compass. And you already know that sales of all the SUVs have declined since last year. Let’s hope the car market will get the necessary boost in this festive season.
Kia’s Anantapur (AP) plant has a manufacturing capacity of 3 lakh units per annum but currently, only 5000 units are produced on a monthly basis. The Korean automaker can increase production based on future demands.

Kia Seltos starts from Rs 9.69 lakh ex-showroom for the base petrol variant. Whereas the Diesel engine option has a starting point of Rs 9.99 lakh ex-showroom. It is interesting to note that Kia has managed to put the BS6 compliant diesel engine option just under 10 lakh mark. This will certainly help move some of the diesel variants out of the showrooms too. THis is not yet revealed by the company what technology it is utilizing in its diesel engine as they are priced pretty low. On the other hand, carmakers like Maruti and Renault are planning to do away with the BS6 diesel engines as they will be very costly to put in smaller to mid-sized cars.
The Seltos comes with 37 connected car features distributed in Navigation, Safety and Security, maps, Climate control, and other verticals. A plus point is that these features can be activated with the help of voice commands. Seltos makes for a perfect choice for a family of five who is looking at an option under 15 lakh.
Kia is now the 7th largest car manufacturer in terms of sales with just one product. We are excited to see what Kia launhcs in the future and how far it goes in terms of sales in the Indian market.
