Kia Seltos can be rechristened as India’s favourite SUV owing to its feature-packed and aggressively priced variants

South Korean car manufacturer, Kia made its official India entry with the launch of Seltos SUV in the month of August 2019. Following that, Seltos became the highest selling SUV in the segment with over 6000 units sold in a matter of 8 days. In September 2019, the carmaker registered a sales number in the north of 7500 units.

That said, the festive season started in October and with more than 50,000 bookings of Kia Seltos in the backlog. No one had guessed that Kia had already ramped up the production and to everyone’s surprise, the company delivered a record 12,850 units of the Seltos in a single month. All credit goes to the Navratri and Diwali week as they are considered auspicious for buying a new vehicle or household items.

Another interesting fact is that Kia has now occupied the 5th position in the Indian market with just one product. The market share is pegged at 4.52% which is a shade behind Tata Motors whose market share is 4.63%. By the next year, Kia intends to launch more mass-market models in India which includes an MPV, Elite-i20 and Baleno rivalling premium hatchback as well as Venue and Brezza rivalling compact SUV.

With these feature-packed and cool lookings cars, Kia might even capture the number 3 spot by overtaking Mahindra & Mahindra in the Indian market. It will not be a surprise looking at the sales of Seltos itself.

Moreover, Seltos is attracting even more bookings and might cross 50,000 again even after the delivery of 12,850 units. In mid-October Kia, Seltos booking number crossed the 60,000 marks and after these many deliveries, we can say that the backlog has fallen under 50,000 mark.

An important factor which is propelling the sales of Seltos is the fact that both Petrol and Diesel engines of the SUV are BS6 compliant and buyers do not have to think twice before purchasing a BS6 car before the emission norms kick in April 2020.
