2020 Volkswagen Passat has gone through a radical design update thanks to a new grille, updated headlamps and aggressive wheels

The new Volkswagen Passat has been unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. This new Volkswagen Passat bears a radically updated design that gives a sharp and edgy vibe. It is expected to launch in India sometime in early 2020. It is based on the much-talked MQB architecture and looks more tempting now thanks to the design update. Upon launch in India, it will lock horns with rivals like Skoda Superb and new Toyota Camry. Expect it to be priced around Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec trim.

The biggest change is visible at the front fascia. A new grille with shiny chrome garnishing, new sharper headlamps with LED projector lamps and daytime running lights is there. Also, there is a heavily updated bumper with a bold look that adds zing. Moving to the side profile, the 2020 Volkswagen Passat boasts bigger and bold alloy wheels, crisp character lines. LED taillights and lip spoiler come adding more appeal to the premium sedan. The coupe-like roofline christened as ‘Tornado Line’ is also visible. Quad exhausts with chrome trips are something that gives the finishing touch to make the sedan eye-catchy.

Inside the cabin, the upcoming new Volkswagen Passat gets a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel. There is nothing interesting to talk about in the instrument cluster. However, a minimalist yet attractive dashboard with wide AC vents, carbon-fibre trim is there. A glass-covered touchscreen infotainment system is there that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink.

On the safety front, the 2020 Volkswagen Passat has become far more advanced compared to the one it is replacing. It gets Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert etc. The higher trims get Adaptive Cruise Control, Parking Steering Assistant and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System as well.
