Tata cars in India include a host of modern models like Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Harrier; here is a guide to choose the right variant

If we have to talk about the car brands that have evolved drastically, Tata Motors is the one name that comes to my mind immediately. The homegrown automaker has seen significant success in the last couple of years thanks to the host of modern cars it launched. These Tata cars in India include models like Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Harrier and Hexa. The new range of Tata cars in India not only carries stylish design but a host of features and modern technologies as well.

So far, Tata cars have seen eye-catching improvement in terms of design, technology and on other fronts as well. While customers are pretty much interested in the models like Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Harrier, it always becomes a confusion which variant to buy. If you are planning to buy a new car and confused about the variant, I will help you with that.

Tata Tiago

Tata Tiago XZ+

The Tata Tiago is a stylish and feature-laden hatchback that appeals the buyers from different age and socio-economic segments. The Tiago is certainly one of the Tata cars in India to think about when you are considering a hatchback for regular commuting in and around the city. Available in both manual and AMT options, the Tiago petrol-AMT combination seems perfect for the city commuter.

This saves you from the hassle in bumper-to-bumper city traffic. Also, the petrol-AMT combo equipped Tiago offers the same fuel efficiency as the petrol-manual. In that case, why not an AMT over a manual? The XZA trim comes priced at Rs 5.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It offers a host of features like dual airbags, fabric seats, cooled glove box, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, rear defogger and wiper, 6+ speakers and steering mounted controls.

Suggested variant: Tiago XZA petrol

Tata Tigor

Tata Tigor

The Tata Tigor is another exciting product in the list of Tata cars in India. This being a city car and having a diesel engine, the diesel-manual combination seems perfect for me. The Tata Tigor’s 1.05-litre Revotorq engine has already proved to be an impressive powertrain. I would suggest the Tata Tigor XZ+ to the buyers. Priced at Rs 7.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the car comes as a perfect value for money. Ask why?

It offers projector headlamp, automatic climate control, reverse parking camera, faux leather, rear defogger and remote-operated boot-lid opener. The touchscreen infotainment system is another USP of this variant. Also, it runs on 14-inch alloys compared to steel rims. It churns out 69 bhp of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Also, it returns 27.28 kmpl of mileage.

Suggested variant: Tigor XZ+ diesel

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon Diesel AMT

Being a compact SUV, the Tata Nexon is meant to be taken on highways. Though it is not built for hardcore off-roading the SUV can go for slight trailblazing. The Nexon comes with a diesel-AMT combination, which makes it a very appealing proposition. Without losing the fuel efficiency compared to the manual variant, the AMT enhances convenience significantly. It is certainly one of the most interesting models in the list of Tata cars in India.

Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, the diesel-AMT variant is available in two options XMA and XZA Plus. My recommendation for the customers is XZA Plus. This variant is priced at Rs 10.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it offers features like keyless start, reverse camera, hill hold control, driver and rear armrest, split rear seats, cooled glove box, electrically adjustable-retractable ORVMs, rear defogger and wiper, touchscreen infotainment system, projector headlamp, LED DRL etc.

Suggested variant: Nexon XZA Plus diesel

Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier

The Tata Harrier is the latest entrant in the list of Tata cars in India. The SUV is available in diesel-manual option only. There are four different trims on offer. Available in four different variant options XE, XM, XT and XZ, my choice is the XZ that comes as the top-end one. The Tata Harrier XZ might be priced at Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), but the overall package it offers comes as value for money.

The car is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s architecture. On and above that, it gets a host of features that make the SUV a very cheap derivative of the British luxury SUV. Yes, I am not exaggerating. It gets 6 airbags, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, Traction Control, Hill Descent Control, leather seat and leather treatment on steering and gear knob.

Suggested variant: Harrier XZ diesel

Make a wise choice:

So, these were the variants of the particular Tata cars in India, I would like to recommend to people who want to buy a new model with Tata badge. However, at the end of the day, the choice is yours and you can buy the variant of a car as per your own preferences.
